Helping residents is a key part of the working day for most care home employees.

A significant number of injuries to staff are caused by moving and handling people.

Some residents may need assistance to move around safely and to participate in activities, others may be dependent on staff for bathing, dressing and other tasks which involve moving and handling.

Being competent in safe carrying and lifting techniques for the workplace is a legal requirement, and this course provides everything you need to know.

Aims

    • Be able to define manual handling and explain the common causes of injury.
    • Be able to recognise manual handling hazards.
    • Be able to undertake an effective manual handling risk assessment.

     

Objectives

    • Understand the legal responsibilities and the duties placed on employers and employees.
    • Understand the types of injury that can be caused by poor manual handling practice.
    • Understand the control measures that can be put in place to reduce the risk of harm.
    • Understand and practise the best way to handle loads to maintain a safe working environment.
